"God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son" (Hebrews 1:1,2a).  The same God who testified of Himself by the writings of the Old Testament Prophets made the ultimate communication by sending His own Son down to this earth.

The Bible teaches us that there is one God who exists in three co-equal persons, the Trinity.  Within that Trinity, the Person of the Son of God exercises a special Divine office.  As the Word of God He has always been the one who makes the unseen God known.  "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1).  So He is God, and He makes God known.  Thus, it was this Word of God who created the whole universe.  Through it the created beings come to know something of the power and wisdom of the unseen God.  "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made" (John 1:3).
The message of the Prophets who gave us God's Scriptures over hundreds and hundreds of years has also always been this Person, the Word of God.  "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me" (John 5:39).
Finally, at the chosen time, the Word came to this earth by a miraculous virgin birth.  He was sent from the heart of God.  "No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him" (John 1:18).  In fulfilling His mission by offering up His life as a payment for the sins of the world, Jesus Christ gave us the ultimate declaration of God's saving love.  "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
It is unimaginable that God would simply overlook sin in those who refuse to trust the Saviour and so trample underfoot His grace.  Eternal life is free to us but it cost God everything, His Only Begotten Son.  To hope for mercy before God outside His salvation plan is the biggest mistake anyone can make.

This The Holy Trinity: In Scripture, History, Theology, and Worship by Robert Letham is as uplifting as the message of this article. This is significant for this discusses and engages in four important things about the Trinity: the incarnation, worship and prayer, creation and missions, and persons.

We all knew this sad story. It seems sad to me despite the result. Human nature can't change.
