"For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God" (I Peter 4:17).  This New Testament verse apparently refers in part to a message from the Old Testament prophet,  Ezekiel.  He warned of God's coming judgment on all the land and which was to "begin at my sanctuary".  These passages highlight a very significant truth.  God traces the cause of moral decay and sin back to the worship life of the land.  Israel could not escape God's displeasure simply because they had a temple building they went to from time to time.  There had to be reality to their worship.  In fact, the very place that professed to be God's house stood accountable to Him first for the underlying spiritual life of the people of the land.
It is by the knowledge of God through Jesus Christ, His Son, that people escape the snares of sin and its bitter fruit.  When churches lose the fear of the Lord, and preachers turn from preaching the Bible, the whole society spirals downward into every kind of ruin.  Isaiah rebuked the dysfunctional prophets of his day for their failure to speak out against evil and defend their flock.  "His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber" (Isaiah 56:10).
These are frightening times we live in.  As we face an uncertain new year Canada needs answers to its problems, and issues need to be faced.  The root is always the country's relationship to God and His truth.  "Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land" (Hosea 4:1).  As a pastor, I am the first to recognize that those who profess to be representatives of God are first in accountability.  After them everyone has to answer for his part.

God alone is worthy of our devotion, praise and worship. He is God, our Creator, and we are commanded to praise and worship Him. I agree, because worship is a way of asking for forgiveness. Worship allows us to keep our faith in God, strong. Worship is the centre of our faith, it reminds us of why and what we believe in, which is what allows our faith to continue. Worship is the act of giving praise and thanks to God for what he's done, doing, or about to do, it can be public or private.
